INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE TO FEATURE PRESENTERS FROM 20 COUNTRIES FOR 100 BREAKOUT SESSIONS

WASHINGTON, June 2, 1998 -- Rural women attending the International Conference on Women in Agriculture, June 28-July 2 in Washington, D.C., will have the opportunity to participate in their choice of 100 sessions during the conference, U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary Jill Long Thompson announced today.

The conference will focus on practical solutions and strategies that women can take back to their communities. Participants will share success stories, hear from experts, and develop networks that will help them tackle the challenges facing the agricultural community. Among the topics that will be addressed: Women Managing Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture, Insurance Purchasing Groups for Rural Women, Ethics of Modern Agriculture, Alternative Marketing Options, and Women Farmers and the Global Economy. Presenters for these 100 breakout sessions come from 20 different countries.

"This impressive lineup of sessions will provide important information for every women attending," said Long Thompson, chair of the conference. "They will also allow the delegates to share with one another their successes and challenges and benefit from each other’s experiences."

More than 1000 women from around the world are expected to attend the conference, sponsored by the President’s Interagency Council on Women.
